About
Born and raised Jersey girl, I moved to Portland a few years ago on a whim. Never looked back.
I suppose you could say that I’ve been crafty since I came out. I’ve dabbled in many things, but the arts that continue to hold my attention are knitting and jewelry making. So that’s what I do. I have a degree in Communications Design and have experience in all realms of Graphic Design. I love to travel, bake, drink copious amounts of coffee, and try to dream up ways to make a living doing all of the above.
Somehow I do manage to do all of it, despite the fact that I have vertigo.
If I had my druthers, I’d make my living with sticks, string and stones. As it is, I have a small business and am a vendor at the Portland Saturday Market.
As far as this blog goes, it’s a way for me to chronicle my explorations and frustrations with all things fibery and crafty. There will be plenty of real life splattered in, being that I have a fairly unconventional life. There will be greatly detailed posts about stitches and complaints about my possessed toaster. They all go hand-in-hand. There will probably be a great deal of jewelry.
Currently, the arts I favor are knitting (of course!), spinning, sewing, and beadwork/jewelry. There is a lot more than that to me though; I love building stuff and have half a degree in metalsmithing. In my dreams there is a two-car-garage sized shed out back that has a full metalshop and woodshop. Unfortunately they don’t look too favorably upon that at apartment complexes!
What I’ve tried, liked, and want to do again:
- Batik
- Tie-dye
- Woodworking
- Dressmaking/Upholstery (hardcore sewing)
What I haven’t tried (or done to any success) and would like to get good at:
- Crochet
- Quilting
- Dyeing (yarn/fiber)
- Weaving
- Welding
All in good time.
